The Interview about Digital Technology from My Students
With the development of economy, people have better lives than before in China. They can afford various technology tools. I interviewed three of my former students. The interview showed that all three students have mobile phones and portable electronic dictionaries. Two of them also have ipads and computers. But the students don’t make full use of these technologies. At home, they usually use portable electronic dictionaries to look up the words, use computer to play games or chat with their friends, or search some information that they need in class. Only one student watches news on the Internet. In schools, they use mobile phones to chat with their friends on the Internet. They can use computers to look up the words, search some information or do projects. They do not know any technology tools that can help them study. Two of interviewees spend about one hour on the computer but the other one spends about five hours on the computer every day.
In time of fast-paced development of technology, students express their desire for technologies. One of the interviewees said that her school was going to use ipads to teach, which made her excited because using technology makes learning more interesting and efficient. Two interviewees suggested that their schools and teachers should provide them more opportunities to use technology in the classroom and open the wireless network on campus.
So as educators, we should have the responsibility to help students have access to various technologies and provide various opportunities to use technologies in the classroom because technologies can promote students’ learning interest and improve their efficiency.
