A Survey about Global Learning from My Students
Six former students of mine participated in the survey about global learning. Five of the six children had traveled to other countries before. They found the differences between our country and other countries through travelling, such as food, environment, and customs. Only one of six students did not travel abroad. With the improvement of people’s living standard, more and more students traveled abroad. Through travelling, they broaden horizons. From the survey, I learned that they were interested in diverse food, customs, and culture. In addition to traveling, they learn other countries or areas from books and the Internet. When they were asked what the globalization is. One of my students said it meant that countries cooperate with one another in the aspect of politics, economy, and culture. Four of them mentioned globalization referred to all countries in the world. The last one said that he needed to know the information from other countries. As for the global learning, two of them said that they need to learn international cultures. Three of them said that they should learn from other countries. One said that she shouldn’t stop learning. When I asked them how to become the global learners, four of them said that they should know more about other countries. They all hope that teachers can tell them more about other countries.
To sum up, in the open world, globalization, this concept is not strange to children. However, they do not know exactly what global learning is, why they need global learning, and how to be global learners. Thereby, teachers have responsibilities to make them know what, why, and how global learning brings impact on their lives.
